Finding Your Purpose

I feel like God has been nudging me to write about this for a while now. I kept going over it in my head… how I’d say it, how it’d flow, what it should sound like. Overthinking it to the max.

And then I realized—the very thing I was doing was exactly what I’m trying to help people avoid. Irony at its finest, right?

I want to talk about purpose. Not just the surface-level stuff. I’m talking about:

“What does God want me to do with my life to advance His Kingdom?”

I’ve had so many conversations lately with people stuck on that question. I’ve been there too. Wondering, wrestling, trying to figure it out.

And the answer? It’s actually really simple.

God wants you to move.

Stop Waiting. Start Moving.

It’s not complicated. It’s not some perfect calling He’s holding back until the stars align.

The calling already happened.

He called you to walk with Him.

Everything else is movement. Action. Obedience in real time.

Not perfection. Not full clarity. Just steps.

David Didn’t Wait for Perfect Clarity

Look at 2 Samuel 7.

David is sitting in his palace, and something stirs in his heart:

“Why do I have this nice house while God is still in a tent?”

So he brings the idea to Nathan.

Nathan’s response?

“Go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.”

Pause there.

David had a thought of what his purpose could be… and he moved on it.

He didn’t freeze. He didn’t wait for a sign. He didn’t spiral in overthinking.

He acted.

And here’s the twist: God later says… David isn’t the one who will build the temple. His son will.

Technically, David got the assignment wrong.

But he was right about the posture of his heart. And God honored that.

Scripture Says It Too

Ecclesiastes 9:10

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.”

Colossians 3:23

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Notice the word: whatever.

Not “the perfect thing.” Not “the confirmed calling.” Not “the crystal-clear plan.”

Just… whatever is in front of you.

Do it with God. Do it for God.

God Directs Movement, Not Stillness

Proverbs 3:5-6

He makes your paths straight.

Psalm 119:105

A lamp lights your steps, not the whole highway.

Philippians 2:13

God works in you to will and to act.

You don’t need full clarity. You need trust… and motion.

Stop Waiting for Perfect Clarity

We tell ourselves:

“I just want to make sure this is God’s will.”

Sounds spiritual. But a lot of the time?

It’s just hesitation wearing a fancy outfit.

You don’t need permission to:

  • Serve

  • Help

  • Create

  • Try

  • Step into something God’s put on your heart

God Is Big Enough to Redirect You

Here’s the truth: You cannot mess up God’s plan by moving forward with the right heart.

David? Wrong assignment. Right heart.

And God still:

  • Redirected him

  • Used him

  • Fulfilled the vision through his son

God is not sitting in heaven hoping you don’t take a wrong step. He’s walking with you, ready to guide, adjust, and redirect as needed.

But He can’t guide steps that aren’t being taken.

Faith Moves

James 2:17

Faith without works is dead.

Hebrews 11:8

Abraham went… not knowing where.

Matthew 14:29

Peter got out of the boat.

Faith isn’t proven in planning. It’s proven in stepping.

So What Do You Do Now?

Serve somewhere. Anywhere.

Start the thing that’s been on your heart.

Fill a need, even if it’s not “your thing.”

Try something, even if you’re not qualified.

Trust God to:

  • Move what needs moving

  • Close what needs closing

  • Grow what needs growing

Waiting for perfect clarity feels wise. But most of the time… it’s just fear in disguise.

Scripture is full of people who moved first and figured it out along the way.

God didn’t fail them. He won’t fail you.

Just move.
